The expertise needed to carry out the proposed studies began to develop while pursuing a residency program at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. As a lecturer, I have undergone various training in mentorship, manuscript and grant writing, genomics and bioinformatics, research methodology, and research ethics. Currently, as a member of the cleft research team in my institution, I have conducted research on growth and feeding patterns in cleft children and genetics, cardiovascular defects in children with cleft lip and palate, and audiological defects in cleft patients. I have undergone further courses on human genetics with the Iowa Institute of Genetics, University of Iowa. This enables me to further understand human genetics and methods of researching human genes.
