  1. Personal Statement- Brief account about yourself

I am a middle career researcher with research interests that span the prevention and management of pulpal disease, the development and application of restorative dental materials and innovations in medical and dental education. In the prevention of pulpal disease, my research has focused on increasing awareness by determining the national prevalence and associated factors of dentine hypersensitivity and tooth wear lesions which are dental conditions with potential to cause pulpal exposure and pathology. Regarding the management of pulpal disease, my research aims to reduce endodontic treatment failures by exploring the influence of various clinical procedural factors on root canal treatment (RCT) outcomes. These includes the evaluation of the complexity of root canal morphology, the efficacy of intracanal medicaments, techniques of canal preparation, and effect of adjunctive therapies such as laser and cryotherapy. In the area of restorative materials, I have collaborated with researchers outside of dentistry to develop a novel hydrolytically-based and cost-effective route for production of glass ionomer cement, diverging from conventional silica precursor methods. I have also investigated placement techniques for composite resin in the restoration of enlarged carious cavitated lesions; with a focus on improving clinical outcomes. To enhance teaching and learning in dental education, my research has examined pedagogical approaches such as problem-based learning (PBL), quality of the clinical learning environment, and reviewed national dental implant curriculum, providing guide for Nigerian dental education programme.
